Chimney caps are protective coverings for chimneys usually made of stainless steel, galvanized or copper. Most chimney caps have a mesh screening that serves the dual purpose of spark arrestor and barrier against animals. Chimney caps also prevent rain from entering the flue of the chimney.

To see a good example of why you should have a properly functioning chimney cap, see about 1 minute into this video when these bats/birds start to dive into the chimney. (The video says birds, but they look like bats to me). Either way, nobody wants to deal with this in their chimney.

Other Animal Intruders

In addition to the bats in the video above; squirrels, birds, raccoons and other small animals love to get themselves trapped in your chimney. These animals can block the flue, carry disease and even enter your home and harm you or your household items.

Keep the Fire INSIDE of Your Chimney

Each year in the US, thousands of fires are started by burning embers that rise up the flue, exit through the uncapped chimney, and then land on the roof or yard. Containing these embers with a properly installed chimney cap from Bone Dry Masonry can give your home the proper protection.

Water Problems

Moisture can cause the most damaging effects to your chimney, and is also the most prominent problem, caused by rain. Unless you are located in the Midwest right now when it seems like it hasn’t rained in forever and the NWS is declaring Red Flag warnings… But I am sure the rain will come again and it’s important that your chimney is properly sealed to prevent damaged caused by any of these elements.

Your poor roof. He works so hard and gets little recognition. He protects you from the rain, snow, cold, heat and so much more. Your roof is arguably the most important piece of your home that brings it all together. So maybe it’s time to reward your roof with a good bath.

It’s not uncommon for a roof to develop dirty streaks or to grow moss and algae. Your roof is constantly exposed to the elements of mother nature which can sometimes be unkind. Treating these streaks not only makes your roof happy, but it also increases the curb appeal of your home, can improve the efficiency of your home and will ultimately increase the overall value and lifespan of your roof.

How to Clean the Roof

There are several ways to approach your roof cleaning. There are several products on the market, but in our experience these often do not work and if they do – not for very long. Also that means you have to get up on the hot roof. Some other companies suggest pressure washing your roof. Unfortunately, pressure washing can actually cause damage to the shingles and will most likely void your shingle warranty.

Time to call in the experts!

The experts at Bone Dry use a soft wash system that not only gets your roof back to its original state, but is approved by all of the shingle manufacturers. Algae buildup is unattractive and will darken your roof and can cause it to heat up. Roof cleaning is one of many home improvement services that will truly increase the overall value of your home.

Roof Cleaning & General Maintenance

Since our guys are already up on your roof scrubbing it clean, we figure we may as well make some repairs while we’re up there. Along with our roof cleaning service, we also include general maintenance on loose shingles and things of that nature.

Your Neighbors Will Be Jealous

No, this lady isn’t stopping to talk to Eric and Grant because they’re cute. I’m sure that was your first thought. In fact, she saw how beautiful this freshly cleaned roof looked from the road and stopped to ask how she could get in on the action!

Bone Dry Roofing uses our same attention to detail to make sure you are happy with the entire roof cleaning Indianapolis process from estimate to new (looking). Your house, yard and landscaping will be protected at all times and when we leave you wont even know we were there except for your clean roof!

Today, Bone Dry Roofing was fortunate enough to participate in the Habitat for Humanity program. One of the Bone Dry Roofing crews volunteered their time to install a brand new roof on a home off of Gale Street in Indianapolis.

Habitat for Humanity states that nearly 2 billion people around the world live in slum housing and over 100 million are homeless. Habitat for Humanity is needed to help eliminate poverty by providing simple, decent shelter to those in need.

Additionally, families left homeless by natural disasters, war and civil unrest often face dire housing situations as they struggle to rebuild their lives. Habitat for Humanity’s Disaster Response program provides shelter and housing solutions to help these families recover.

Bone Dry takes pride in our community involvement and have been involved with Habitat for Humanity and several other organizations for quite some time.
