4 Questions to Ask A Roofer Before Hiring Them

Contents

If you want to make sure you’re getting the most value out of your next roofing project, you need to make sure you’re hiring the right people. As the leading roofing contractor in the area, we’re here to enumerate the four most important questions to ask a roofing company before hiring them.

What’s the Name of Your Business?

Certain areas of the country don’t require roofing contractors to secure a license, which is why you need to make sure they’re a legitimate local business. Ask for their full business name and check to see if it matches the name found on their paperwork (receipts, contracts and certificates, if any). You should also check if the business name is recognized by the Better Business Bureau.

Do You Work With Subcontractors?

Some roofing contractors will hire third-party companies to carry out their work. This isn’t considered bad practice, but there’s a chance it could lead to inconsistencies in the quality of the work if they hire different subcontractors for each project. Try to hire a contractor who works with an in-house crew if you want something more consistent in terms of build quality.

Do You Need to Check the Roof From Inside the House?

A good roofing contractor knows that you can’t make a full assessment of the roof just by looking at the surface. Any contractor worth their salt will tell you that they’ll need to check from inside your house to keep an eye out for possible leaks and other issues that can’t be seen from outside.

Will You Perform a Lay-Over or Complete Tear-Down?

Roofing experts will give you two options when replacing your roof: a lay-over, which involves keeping the existing deck, underlayment, and tiles, or a tear-down, which may involve replacing some or all of those parts. A good contractor will suggest a tear-down instead of just recommending a lay-over if they think the underlying components are already in bad shape.

If you’re still looking for the right contractor, let’s have a conversation! Bone Dry Roofing is the leading roofing company in Sarasota, FL. You can call us at (941) 343-5622 or fill out our contact form to schedule an appointment.
