According to gutter and commercial roofing contractors, gutters are an important part of any property, catching and directing rainwater away to prevent moisture damage on roofs and the rest of your home. However, as time goes by, it’s possible for gutters to fail. You’ll need to get them replaced as soon as you can so it’s important to know when your gutter system is failing.
Be on the lookout for these signs:
- Peeling Paint – A malfunctioning gutter system can easily ruin your home’s paint job and as such, you should check your home’s exterior every now and then for bubbling or peeling paint. If there’s an area of your home that’s exhibiting these signs, check the nearest section of your gutters as it’s possible that a gutter leak is the reason for the ruined paint job around your home.
- Rotten Wood – If you notice that you have exterior wood trim elements that are beginning to rot, then consider checking the nearest gutter section as well. According to gutter replacement experts, it’s possible that the rot in your wood trims are caused by the water that overflows or leaks from your gutter system. If it’s clear that the gutter is damaged, it’s best that you have it replaced immediately as leaving it unattended can result in additional problems for your home.
- Cracked Gutters – Cracked gutters are plainly visible from the ground level and as such, you should be able to spot them even on a bright sunny day. Smaller cracks on your gutters, meanwhile, can be difficult to spot unless it’s raining. Regardless of the size, however, if you notice cracks in your gutter system, take it as a sign that it’s beginning to fail and will have to be replaced sooner rather than later.
- Mold and Mildew Growth – Finally, when you’re trying to check if your gutter system is failing, check your basement or around your hone’s foundation. If you notice that mold and mildew are suddenly beginning to grow when they weren’t there before, damaged gutters are the likely cause and the next logical step that you should take is, in the very least, a gutter inspection, but more than likely a gutter replacement project.
