Are You Prepared for the Next Hurricane Season?

Contents

Living in beautiful Sarasota, FL has numerous advantages, yet it also entails the necessity of bracing for hurricane season. The formidable power of these storms can result in extensive devastation, with roofs being notably susceptible. This blog post discusses hurricane-related roof damage and how you can prepare your home.

Hurricane Season

Roof Damage Caused by Hurricanes

Hurricanes can inflict severe roof damage, leaving homeowners in distress. The relentless winds, heavy rain and debris bombardment can tear off shingles, expose vulnerabilities and compromise structural integrity. Water infiltration can lead to interior damage and mold growth.

It’s crucial to promptly assess and document hurricane-induced damage and file a roof insurance claim after a hurricane. Take photos and get professional assessments of the damage. Professional roof inspections reveal hidden issues, precisely assess the damage, and restore your roof to its pre-storm state, protecting your home and your peace of mind.

4 Tips to Prepare Your Roof for the Next Hurricane Season

1. Get a Professional Roof Inspection Before the Hurricane Season

Even if your roof looks good on the surface, high winds and rainfall can reveal hidden damage that you might not have noticed previously. A roof inspection by a licensed and insured roofer can help you identify weak spots so you can make the necessary repairs before they become major problems.

2. Trim Trees and Clear Debris in the Path of Strong Winds

Take a look at nearby trees and determine whether they’re a risk to your home. Trim them back and clear away any loose debris, such as branches, leaves or piles of sticks. These can act as projectiles in high winds, damaging your roof and other parts of your home.

3. Install Hurricane Straps to Secure Your Roof

Installing hurricane straps can further protect your roof from the immense force of hurricane winds, making sure it stays firmly in place. Your roofer should be able to provide and install these straps for you.

4. Secure Gutters and Downspouts to Prevent Water From Entering Your Home

Gutters and downspouts can be a weak link when it comes to preventing water from entering your home. Make sure they’re firmly connected to your roof, that your gutters are clear of debris and that your downspouts are positioned where they will carry the water far enough away from your home, accommodating the heavy volume of rain from a hurricane.

I would highly recommend Bone Dry Roofing. We had our tile roof replaced with a new beautiful metal roof. Start to finish, the professionals at Bone Dry Roofing made our experience a pleasant one. The price was very competitive, scope of work was as promised and the end result was a beautiful roof which has made our home look more contemporary. Patrick held our hand the entire process, providing us with pictures daily of the progress, the crew were so hard working including Israel, Edgar, Jose and Hugo and made sure the job was done to our satisfaction. Great job!

My experience with Bone Dry roofing started a few days after hurricane Ian struck in2023. As I was clearing debris from my yard I saw one of their trucks across the street at a neighbors house. I went over and asked the man (Patrick Ormsbee) from bone dry if he could look at my roof and give me an estimate. He said that even though he was booked heavily he was instructed to help anyone that asked for it. He was very friendly, went up on the roof, took pictures and said he would have the estimate in a couple of days. I called Patrick multiple times with various questions over multiple days and as busy as he was he always called me back and answered my questions. This commitment to customer service is the reason I choose Bone Dry roofing to replace my roof. Weeks after I had my roof replaced there was a small problem. When I called Bone Dry they immediately responded, came out and fixed the problem. Excellent customer service! I highly recommend them.

Bone Dry Roofing completed my roofing project very effectively and efficiently. The job was to patch a hole which seemed easy but ended up being a big project due to the repair the previous owner of the home had done. The technician had no complaints and completed the job the correct way so no future issues would occur. I will definitely be using Bone Dry Roofing for any future roofing needs. Highly recommend!
